That’s right — I narrated my own audiobook. As of yesterday, you can go listen to nearly six hours of my voice. (…of my voice reading the book — it’s not just six hours of me ranting and rambling. Or maybe you think there’s no difference! Good for you.)
Back in September, I wrote about the experience of recording and auditioning for my own audiobook. Here’s me, during the recording. I had to hear my own voice the entire time. Absolute hell:
NOTE: I did not read directly from the physical galley I’m holding in the above photo, though the sounds of licking and turning the corner of every page could have really added to the listening experience.
The short version of the audition process is this:
The final casting decision came down to me and Britney Spears. I’d already landed the role of narrating Britney’s memoir, so I offered a trade — she could read hers, if I could read mine. A deal was made. Then Britney decided not to read hers, either.
That’s a power move.
So, am I concerned that multiple companies like Amazon and Apple now have access to my voice saying tens of thousands of words, including the likes of “I want to” and “piss” and “on” and “the president”? Well, I’m clearly thinking about it.
But you can make it all worth it. You can get the audiobook right now through Audible, Google Play, Spotify, Amazon (which owns Audible? They may own everything, tbh), and nearly anywhere else you like to listen to things. I bet you can even get it at Amrexa™.
(If you don’t get the reference, ya gotta read/listen to This Won’t Help!)
Praise for This Won’t Help
That’s all for today. Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you soon.
will it be on Audible?!
